April in Charlottesville

April has been a super busy month for wine tours! And as the weather gets warmer, lots more activities are coming up.

Our Charlottesville Farmer’s Market has started on Saturday mornings on Water Street in the pay parking lot. It runs from around 7am to 12 noon. It’s a lot of fun, and not only can you purchase plants and produce, but there’s everything from gourmet coffee to our FAVORITE breakfast sausage (Babes in the Woods) served to you as you amble along. Also artwork and jewelry. It’s a great time to enjoy the morning but please don’t bring your pets. They are not invited, and it does get crowded so they would not enjoy being there.

Don’t forget the annual Montpelier Wine Festival, May 3-4. The festival, located at Madison’s Montpelier outside the town of Orange will open each day at 11 a.m., rain or shine, until 6 on Saturday and 5 on Sunday.

Tickets are $14 in advance and $20 at the gate. For more information and how to purchase tickets, go to http://www.montpelierwinefestival.com/

The festival includes:

  • a souvenir wine glass
  • taste of 20 Virginia award-winning wines
  • cooking with wine demonstrations
  • foods for picnics
  • live music
  • arts and crafts
  • kite demonstrations and kite making
  • revolutionary war encampment and re-enactments
  • horse and carriage rides
  • tour Montpelier

Meanwhile the Chambourcin vines we planted appear to be budding so we are excited! We’re putting in our new gardens and the wisteria, weeping Cherry tree, redbuds and dogwoods are all blooming, and I’m getting my summer clothes out of the basement! Life is good at Arcady!
